SQL Interview Questions for Freshers

30 Oct 2026

SQL is common in developer, QA, analyst and support interviews. Practise on a small schema and explain what each query returns.

Core topics

Revise SELECT and filtering, sorting, joins, grouping and aggregates, NULL behaviour, subqueries, constraints, primary and foreign keys, updates and transactions. Learn why duplicate rows appear and how to check your result.

Practise with realistic data

Create tables for customers, orders or applications and answer questions such as top categories, users without records and monthly totals. State assumptions and handle missing values. Never run destructive queries on data you do not own.

If SQL appears in your skills, show it in a project on your resume and check the job’s exact requirements.

Common questions

Do freshers need advanced SQL?

Start with practical filtering, joins, grouping, constraints and data reasoning. Add advanced topics as roles require.

How can I practise SQL?

Use a small local or public dataset and write queries for realistic questions while checking the returned rows.
